What happened to our Nigeria?

Image
Nigeria, a place we call home, a land that used to flow with milk and honey, formerly know as the giant of Africa. What has happened? What changed? Is it the inabilities of the leaders or the cruelness of the led? I remember trying to get to Agbara from mile 2 in Lagos some time ago and for no reason the bus fare that was supposed to be 200, has been more than doubled, For no reason traders increase the price of their goods, for no reason people dump refuse on the streets and when it rains and everywhere becomes flooded they blame it on the government. Now the question is: WHO IS TO BE BLAMED FOR THE DOWNFALL OF OUR GREAT NATION? Is the government truly at fault? Or is it just that the citizens are not playing their part? Now back to my bus story, sitting in the bus I was wondering, why is a bus of 200 now 500? Getting to iyana Iba, the answer flew in, 'bad road's we are not talking about mere pot holes, but pits on a so called international road. Then I asked

One of the three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) killed in Kogi state last Friday was Ebun Peters, a multi-talented 41-year old man. Apart from his job, he was a photographer, hunter, choirmaster of the local Catholic Church and a frontline role player in community affairs. In a face book post republished below, Mr Tunde Ipinmisho, a relative of the deceased laments the alarming state of insecurity in Kogi. When Will the Days of Evil End in Kogi State? Three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on routine patrol to rid the state of illicit drugs and psychotropic substances, were on Friday night ambushed and shot dead in Okene, Kogi State. They did nothing wrong other than carry out the commitment they signed to when they took up their jobs, to use the instrumentality of their office to help make Nigeria a better country. The tragic incident has further reinforced the not too far fetched belief in many quarte

N200m bribe scandal hits Kogi Assembly

Barely two months after emerging as Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Kolawole Matthew, has been embroiled in a N200 million scandal. The N200 million scandal alarm was raised by a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Youth Leader, Austin Okai, last week in a publication on his social media accounts, which is still trending in the state. Accused: According to Austin’s publication, the Assembly, in August, approved a loan of N1.9 billion for the government to spend on some projects in the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB. It alleged that a few days after, the Speaker, through the back door, unilaterally approved N10 billion memo for the executive without passing the request through the normal House debates. The publication said the members, on getting news of the matter, threatened to relieve the Speaker of his position, a development that made him rush to the governor, who provided N200 million to pacify the legislators. However, rather than use the mone

Nysc, scrap or continue?

Image
The National youth service corps  (NYSC) is an organization set up by the Nigerian  government to involve the country's graduates in the development of the country. Si nce 1973, graduates of  universities  and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps program for one year.  This is known as national service year.       There has been some reservations about this scheme by some individuals and they think Nysc should be scrapped. Currently in my service year, I think personally that nysc is fun  and also has a lot to learn from though stressful. The question now is, Do you think Nysc should be scrapped or should continue. Have your say on the comment box.

The present state of Tin can Apapa

Image
Considered one of the main source of income of Nigeria,  Tin Can Island Port was built in 1981 and opened in 1997. In 1991, the Nigerian Ports Authority was responsible for operating the port, and they made it a modern functioning port. Tin Can Island Port is the second busiest Port in Nigeria after apapa port, yet the road to these ports is more like a road to hell leading to the damage of cars and even loss of lives. See more photos below...  The question now is, what is the federal government doing about this?
